Away Day

Gah! Got the call yesterday afternoon for Molly's new liver! Amazing! Had about 10 minutes to get our sh*t together..... gah gah gah!!!

Had a hectic ride in an ambulance (Daisy was impressed - it was flourescent yellow) up to London. 2 hours and lu-lu came out flourescent green (Yuk, no windows....). Up to the ward where they put her cream on and sent us for an x-ray (no forms, so half an hour later ward nurse flinging her weight about we got the x-ray). Back up to Mountbatten ward for swabs (Molly thought the ones up her nose were most amusing but was absolutely outraged by throat and groin!!!). Then 3 attempts by ward Dr to get canula in. After bruising two hands and an un-anaesthestised foot Shaun told her to sling her hook (well, nicely I add - which is amazing for him) and got the Registrar in. Had to be in the foot of course, but we "iced" it with spray and she went in first time no probs. Why do that have to practise on kids?

Then came the wait... wait... wait. 1.15pm the news came that the liver was NOT suitable -too fatty. Gah Gah Gah. So we spent the night, catching an hour or so of sleep. Molly was disconnected from her drip and came in bed with me for a while. Then we had to wait for the Dr to give us the all clear and go home. We got home about 12.45pm.

And now? I could go to bed!!! We don't feel too let down - we knew it was a possibility. Actually I feel better for having been - I have "edited" the hospital bags - I now have stuff I will actually need in there!!! And I know what to expect. And, of course, it feels one step closer and I don't feel so panicky.

Ask me next week how I feel and no doubt it will be..... panicky - "will the liver ever come?". But for now...........

its close
